Bump Set Spike

Well, we welcomed back the volleyball team today from their NCAA Tournament trip to Austin. Outside the Rec. In the cold. With the weather, I undestand the non-existant turnout. The band, cheerleaders, staff, family, and boyfriends made it. Everyone there had a fairly personal stake in the team, and we were happy to welcome them home. Oh, and Jeff Johnson.

But we need to take the time to recognize what the team did this year, particularly in the wake of the past few days. Christy Johnson came to ISU and took a team with 13 conference wins in 180 games to its first winning record in her first year here, followed by 3 consecutive NCAA births. The team is now coming off of Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight seasons.

I know here and elsewhere, the fact that we've become a 'volleyball school' is thrown around as pretty derogatory. Let's take some pride in what the women have accomplished. And if you find the time, stop by Hilton for a game next year. Typically, there's a game or 2 on Saturday during the football season and you can get in free with your football tickets. Take a little tailgating time and check it out. Dare I say it, it may be more exciting to watch than women's basketball.

Congrats, Cyclones. I know I'm not the only one looking forward to next year.
