Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Mike Stoops New Favorite?

Per Marty and Miller.

Some pretty strong words from the guys that thought we hired Jay Norvell last time. Still, Stoops has to be considered a favorite.

I'll work to keep you guys updated through the night.

There's heavy chatter on Stoops. Which, you know, probably means he's not our next coach.

And oh, by the way, the Ames Tribune says no to Fulmer.

I'll get behind whoever we have....

but I can’t really get excited about a guy who was on the chopping block until he beat Arizona State.

Hmm

I was about to post this, but BAM you got it! Hopefully you don’t fail your final over this. Don’t want you to start off on the wrong foot with the new coach!

Not thrilled about this, but who knows..

I don't understand this from anyone's perspective...

Why would ISU want Stoops? He hasn’t really done much at Arizona – just enough not to get fired every year. What does Stoops give ISU that someone else wouldn’t, besides having a brother who is a great coach?

Why would Stoops want to go to ISU? No offense, but I don’t see how this is a step up – more of a step sideways. At the very least, Arizona is at a higher point than ISU is right now (although neither are too high).

Is there someone who can explain all of this to me – I really don’t get it.

I think the important part of the Stoops rumor just came to light.
At practice today as the Wildcats prepare to play in Saturday’s Las Vegas Bowl, Stoops chuckled when asked about the opening.

"I don’t have any comment," Stoops said. "I’m getting ready to play a game here."
Iowa State has not contacted the UA athletic department for permission to speak with Stoops, Arizona Athletic Director Jim Livengood said this afternoon.

I know a lot goes on behind closed doors and even around AD’s backs, but there’s no way we’re in the ‘final stages’ (as Marty said) of hiring someone without even talking to their AD. Which is fine by me; Stoops wasn’t at the top of my list.
