Gameday: Iowa State vs. Texas A&M

Your Thursday thread for tourney talk...

In a rare twist, both the Iowa State men's and women's basketball teams play the same team, Texas A&M, in Big 12 tournament play. We start off the evening with a semifinal matchup between the women's teams, and cap the night with a game between the men. Better yet, both games are nationally televised.

Women:
Opponent: #11 (4) Texas A&M Aggies (24-7, 11-5)
Series: Iowa State leads 13-3
Date: Mar. 13, 2008 | 6 p.m.
Listen:  CRN/Learfield
TV: FSN
Arena: Kansas City, Mo. • Municipal Auditorium (9,338)

Men:
Opponent: (6) Texas A&M Aggies (22-9, 8-8)
Series: Iowa State leads 7-6
Date: Mar. 13, 2008 | 8:30 p.m.
Listen:  CRN/Learfield
TV: ESPN2
Arena: Kansas City, Mo. • Sprint Center (18,795)

Tonight is a chance for the Cyclones to make some statements. The women can earn their second straight Big 12 Tournament Championship bid with a second straight win over A&M in the semifinals. Heck, there's no reason the women can't pull off another big win in the craziest tournament in the history of the Big 12. Just the 3, 4, 7 and 8 seeds remain.

The men have a chance to seize momentum going into the offseason, and with what has been an erratic Aggie basketball team this year, a win is never out of the question. Things are already off to a good start with Ron Franklin and my personal favorite Fran Fraschilla doing the ESPN2 broadcast.

The Aggies are pretty high on the Cyclone Haterade list ever since the Sedrick Johnson fiasco, and I have to imagine that they don't like us a whole lot either, between Johnson, last  year's women's tourney ouster, and the skullfucking we gave them last time we matched up in football. A basketball sweep today would just further that hate, and I'm totally fine with it.

TTU - OSU

Tourney starting off in cripple fight fashion, fighting for the right to lose to Texas. My money is on OSU to pull one out.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
