Beau Blankenship Becomes Third Iowa State Commit

A third commitment became known today, reported by CycloneReport, as Rivals two-star/Scout one-star/ESPN Grade 76 RB Beau Blankenship verballed to Iowa State.

Blankenship, for one, takes a funny looking picture, and if you flip through his photo gallery, you'll understand.

That being said, as far as his football ability? Here's his sophomore and junior stats at Norman North High School:

Sophomore: 288 att, 1597 yds, 5.5 avg, 16 TD

Junior: 330 att, 2200, 6.6 avg, 26 TD

So, not horrible. At 5-8, 207, he's a little short, but plenty stout. I imagine he'd add some more mass once he hits Ames. He was somewhat underrecruited. He garnered interest from multiple schools, but apparently jumped when ISU came calling, he felt they were the most interested, and he decided to sign on.

Here's the ESPN take:

Overall, Blankenship is a bit of an over-achiever; he lacks great measurables but is a determined runner and highly-productive at the high school level. Could develop into a complementary change-of-pace runner.

Almost sounds like Jason Scales.

However, why read more of what I have to say when there's fancy moving pictures of Blankenship out there? Click here.

He is really strong, doesn't need very much more mass

He squats 550, benches over 300, and runs a 4.4-4.5 forty time.

Hmm

I typed that before I ever looked at that stuff…but…I’m going to bed so I won’t change it. I still think Shep could put another good 20 pounds on him.

BTW...

Isn’t squatting 550, benching 300, and running that swiftly mean Beau has good measureables?

I'd say so

I wonder if the coaching staff ever discussed the linebacker position with him
