Week 12: Last Regular Season Gamethread

Iowa St. Cyclones at Missouri Tigers, Nov 21, 2009 1:00 PM CST

Next Game

Boy would it be nice to see ISU close out the regular season strong. Nevertheless, I will go out and say that no matter the outcome, this team will play in a bowl of some sort. Looking forward to seeing how the team does, and disappointed that this game is not on TV. This matchup looks so much better now than it did 10 days ago, or whenever it was decided we'd be blacked out.

At the end of the day, it's more than just a bowl game. It's all about this:

Telephone-trophy_medium

Ok, well maybe not. I do wonder how many Cyclone fans realize that this game has a trophy?

Anyhow, I'll be listening on the radio, and posting my thoughts about the game. You are welcome to join in!

Go State!

Alright, lets see what this defense does

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:08 PM CST reply actions

And ISU breaks up the pass

Mizzou will punt, and ISU will take over for the first time

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:10 PM CST reply actions

Damn it

Missouri moving now on ISU’s 25. Danario picks up a big gain

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:14 PM CST reply actions

Well that didn't help

Washington runs for 7-8 yards, and an ISU facemask at the end of the play… .Mizzou now on the 4

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:16 PM CST up reply actions

I’m a little disappointed with how we’ve started. We turn the ball over, then allow some big gains, followed by a costly penalty.

Basically everything that ISU fans were worried about has happened.

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:24 PM CST reply actions

Wow

I grabbed some food real quick, and ISU is now deep in Missouri Territory

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:27 PM CST reply actions

Arnaud to Darks for 23 yards, 2 A-Rob rushes for 14 yards, A-Rob reception for 8 yards, then the rest is history

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:32 PM CST up reply actions

DUMB

Lyle jumps offsides, but then also facemasks, so Mizzou picks up 15 instead of 5…

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:36 PM CST reply actions

4th and Goal from the 1 now

The FG unit gets on the field. A nice stop for the D

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:40 PM CST reply actions

I didn’t like the way ISU started the game, but they have played well the last half of the quarter. Hopefully they can carry this over into the 2nd

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:46 PM CST reply actions

Dang it

Pass deflected to an open Hamilton

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:48 PM CST reply actions

Stupid

They run an option-fake…. Should’ve just lined up and gone for it with the normal offense

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:49 PM CST reply actions

Lyle with a big sack!

Missouri on 3rd and 6 gets sacked on a playaction

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:52 PM CST reply actions

Looked more like a zone read

Hard to tell though. DL was in the backfield before anything could happen.

by RPT on Nov 21, 2009 1:53 PM CST up reply actions

Oh ok, gotcha

Just going off of the radio guys… Thanks!

I take it you’re in the press box or something?

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:54 PM CST up reply actions

More penalties

ISU on a 3rd and 4 false-starts… It’s on the entire offensive line, lol

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 1:56 PM CST reply actions

A-Rob getting going

Two 5 yard runs, then a 10 yard reception!

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 2:06 PM CST reply actions

Nice screen

Missouri blitzs, and A-Rob picks up 17

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 2:07 PM CST reply actions

ISU 10, Mizzou 10, A little over 3:00 left

Other than not scoring, this was a great drive for the Cyclones. They moved the ball methodically down the field, and ate up some clock in the meantime…

Also, the defense has picked it up and come up big the last couple of Missouri possessions

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 2:12 PM CST reply actions

Missouri taking over on their own 21

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 2:14 PM CST reply actions

Big chance to take the lead going into the half

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 2:19 PM CST reply actions

I have to say I'm impressed... 4 plays, 66 yards, in 30 seconds or so, and no timeouts used

They will likely go into the half with the lead, and they will get the ball first to start the 3rd Quarter

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 2:22 PM CST reply actions

ISU has all of the momentum right now!

Lots of guys are stepping up… Halfway done, but now they need to play the second half like how they played the last part of the 1st quarter, and the 2nd quarter!

I hope they can come out of the locker room and continue playing like this!

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 2:25 PM CST reply actions

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 2:38 PM CST reply actions

So far

ISU hasn’t gotten completly burned, and has caused 2 fumbles, recovering 1. If the defense continues to play hard, and if the offense can continue to find the open guy and move the ball, I’m looking optomistic.

Missouri has a good rush defense, and it’s been awesome to see ISU pass the ball reasonably well.

Can’t wait for the 2nd half! Let’s go STATE!

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 2:39 PM CST reply actions

sounds like arnaud hurt his hand again

"Stats from the spring," he said when handed the numbers. "I can take those down to the spare bathroom in the house. We can put them to use down there."

ISU 17, Mizzou 17

The offense needs to respond. Let’s go!

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 2:52 PM CST reply actions

A-Rob to Sed Johnson

Holding on the D… Missouri fans wanted offensive pass interference on a pushoff

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 2:56 PM CST reply actions

Stats-wise

It goes down as a 12 yard run. I guess it was a backward pass

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 3:14 PM CST up reply actions

Now the defense needs to do keep the plays in front of them

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 3:12 PM CST reply actions

ISU defense comes up big!

A couple of pass deflections, from LJ and Smith!

by Mark Kieffer on Nov 21, 2009 3:15 PM CST reply actions
