Signing day tomorrow

Forward LaRon Dendy is expected to sign with the Cyclone men's basketball team tomorrow. The Des Moines Register has a preview of Greg McDermott's fall class, which includes juco forward Marquis Gilstrap and freshman point guard Chris Colvin.

Here's the Register's recap on the Cyclones' three recruits:

LaRon Dendy, 6-9 forward, Greenville, S.C. (Indian Hills C.C., Ottumwa) — Played in just eight games as a sophomore for the Warriors because of a stress fracture in his right leg. Averaged 8.1 points and 4.1 rebounds for a 30-4 team. Averaged 8.5 points and 8.3 rebounds as an Indian Hills freshman.

Chris Colvin, 6-3 guard, Chicago, Ill. (Whitney Young) - Helped team to the Class 4-A state title and a 26-9 record. Averaged 12.3 points and 6.2 rebounds. First-team all-Public League selection by the Chicago Sun-Times. Second-team all-state selection by the Chicago Tribune and Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.

Marquis Gilstrap, 6-6 forward, Covington, Ga. (Gulf Coast C.C.) - Was named Panhandle Conference player of the year after averaging 22.6 points and 10.1 rebounds for a team that finished 24-9 and was a runner-up to Chipola in the state playoffs. He was the only player in the league to average a double-double. Shot 48.3 percent from the field, 40.9 percent from 3 (52-of-127) and 74.8 percent from the free-throw line. Was a National Junior College Athletic Association honorable mention all-American.

The star of the class is Colvin, out of Chicago.

"He'll fit in great because of his ability to get to the basket," Iowa State coach Greg McDermott said. "We needed another person to break down defenses and create for his teammates. Chris really fits that bill.

If Bracken doesn't go into the NBA

the ISU will have a very good team. I think that he is being told that if he comes out now that he would go in the late 2nd or early 3rd round. If he waits a year he could go high in the first round. I know what my choice would be I hope his is the same.

Great stuff, Justin…
