SB Nation 2009 All-Big 12 Pre-Season Team

The SB Nation Big 12 bloggers got together recently and voted on our choices for the All-Big 12 Pre-Season Team. The rules were pretty simple: each Big 12 blogger was to nominate players from their own team, but when voting could not vote for their own players. So, Clone Chronicles could not vote for Mike Bradtner for example, and Corn Nation could not vote for Suh, and so on.

The Colorado Blog, The Ralphie Report, did the task of collecting nominations and tallying the votes. You can tell that they did NOT cheat as no Colorado Players are on the team. As an ISU fan, we can't really pile on, as no ISU players made our team either.

21 of the 27 players who made the team were from either Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Baylor. Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska each had 2 players make the team, as the rest of the North got shut out.

Without further delay, here are the picks for the SB Nation 2009 All-Big 12 Pre-Season Team:

Star-divide

DEFENSE OFFENSE SPECIAL TEAMS
CB Dominique Franks, OU OL Russell Okung, OSU K Alex Henery, Nebraska
CB Perrish Cox, OSU OL Adam Ulatoski, Texas KR Dez Bryant, OSU
DE Sergio Kindle, Texas OL Chris Hall, Texas P Derek Epperson, Baylor
DE Auston English, OU OL Trent Williams, OU
DL Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska OL Kurtis Gregory, Missouri
DL Gerald McCoy, OU QB Sam Bradford, OU
LB Joe Pawelek, Baylor RB Kendall Hunter, OSU
LB Sean Weatherspoon, Missouri
RB DeMarco Murray, OU
LB Travis Lewis, OU
TE
Jermaine Gresham, OU
S Darrell Stuckey, Kansas WR Dez Bryant, OSU
S Jordan Lake, Baylor WR Jordan Shipley, Texas
    WR Dezmon Briscoe, Kansas
    FB Matt Clapp, OU

Mike Bradtner and Leonard Johnson did receive votes, they did not get enough to make the team. If there was a 2nd team, I would think both of their chances would've been good.

The only picks in which I differed was DE Auston English and K Alek Henery. I like English's teammate Jeremy Beal better at DE, and I like Hunter Lawrence from Texas better than Henery, but I'm not going to lose sleep over the kicker selection.

Not too surprised

I think ISU football is going to be under the radar and it will take a few more years before people will start paying attention to them in the preseason, despite having a good season or not. I’m not usually one to pay much attention to preseason polls. Take a look at the whole Tebow unanimous selection fiasco and you will probably get where I’m coming from.

Rumor has it Alex Brown keeps Chris Simms' right index finger in his back pocket for good luck.
