Football Depth Chart As of 8/31/2009

Per Cyclones.com

The noteable change is in the Defensive Secondary.  It appears that Michael O'Connell has beat out James Smith for the starting Free Safety job, and Allen Bell is now listed is #2 at Strong Safety instead of Free Safety.  Also, Darius Reynolds finally makes an appearance on the depth chart as a returner.

Not exactly sure what the story is with Smith, but having O'Connell start can only be a good thing. Either he has beat out an established starter and the Cyclones will get better production at that spot, or both of these guys are equal and will give each other some good competition for playing time (in which case we will likely get better production at that spot as well).

Minus Darks,

we seem pretty healthy going into this one. I am hoping that we come out of it that way too. I think my 48-14 pick will hold true for the final outcome. Go Clones…

Update

I guess Smith is nursing a calf injury and both Smith and O’Connell will get time the first game..

Yeah, Smith is not 100%. I’m assuming since the Bison plan on running a lot they have no problem putting O’Connell out there to get Smith ready for week 2. Kinda nice to see some depth.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
