The Wizard of Westwood could have been the Sultan of the Cyclones. "I visited Ames one time in 1940 or ‘41," Wooden said. "Iowa State offered me the (basketball coaching) position there prior to World War II."

The night John Wooden spoke in Cedar Rapids | GazetteOnline.com Time to pay your respects to the patriarch of college basketball. We lost a giant today.

#Scoop - Bobby Lutz has been hired by Iowa State HC Hoiberg. Been told by source that it's done and has been for some time now. #Cyclones

Matt Perrault (sportstalkmatt) on Twitter reporting that Coach Fred Hoiberg's hire for his "experienced head coach" as an assistant to help show him the ropes is former Charlotte 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz. A great hire, it seems.

It's tomorrow.

It's tomorrow.

The latest rumor is that Iowa State could have a new coach by tomorrow. Keep an eye out. It doesn't make sense, but nothing revolving around ISU athletics ever does.

"I’ve talked to a number of people that have taken six, seven, eight teams to NCAA Tournament," Thompson said. "So I found there is a number of these guys as head coaches of major universities. I don’t think there is a problem in finding who you want, it’s up to (ISU athletic director) Jamie (Pollard) to see what he thinks is the best result he can get right now for the program."

Go Cyclones - Gillispie and then some with coaching search Apparently there might just be more interest in this position than first imagined.

Local Iowa State Student to Appear on CBS’ NCAA Tournament Coverage After a nationwide initiative to find the craziest college basketball traditions and maddest fan rituals, Coke Zero has anointed Iowa State University student Nate Dobbels to star in a recurring in-game spot on CBS starting with the network’s coverage of the Sweet 16 men’s NCAA Tournament games on Thursday, March 26. A video showing Dobbels dressed as a gorilla and leading cheers at a Cyclones home basketball game will be contained in a Coke Zero vignette at the bottom of the screen that will appear at various times during CBS’ NCAA Tournament telecasts on March 26, 27, 28 and 29. The spot will promote www.tastethemadness.com, where Dobbels uploaded his video. During March Madness other fans can go to the Web site to upload their own spirited videos for the chance to be featured on CBS’ broadcast of the national championship game on April 6. Dobbels’ video, along with four others that will also be featured in the spot, were chosen from among more than 1,000 videos and photos submitted by fans across the country in February and March. I normally don't post press releases I get in my email, but I thought this one might merit a posting.

Trinity Valley C.C. left tackle, and former Arp multi-sport star Zack Spears told David Smoak he's committed to play at Iowa State University. Spears, a 6-7 320-pound left tackle, chose Iowa State over Memphis, SFA, and South Alabama. He also received some interest from Utah. Spears, a star basketball player at Arp, has only played two years of football, one at Arp, and one at Trinity Valley. Spears will sign on Wednesday, and join former high school teammate Sedrick Johnson in Ames, Iowa.

Former Arp Star Zack Spears commits to Iowa State - The Smoakhouse Forums We may not have a coach, be recruiting seems to have picked up anyways.

You can say it's not about race, but you can't compare the two resumes and say [Chizik] deserved the job. Out of all the coaches they interviewed, Chizik probably had the worst resume.

Brock Wempa will be................. committing to Iowa State officially tomorrow. Offensive Line Coach Robert McFarland will be doing an in-home visit with Brock and his parents tomorrow. Brock just told me he is 100% and wanted to make his commitment official while he was with his future line coach and his parents. He will also likely be talking with Coach Chizik via phone during the meeting.
