Iowa State football fans have had a pretty shitty week, no doubt, but a bit of a dull glow has shown up on the horizon with the ninth commitment for the 2008 class, defensive end DJ Marshall out of Mesquite, Texas. Marshall is known as David on the Scout Network.
Marshall clocks in at 6-4, 230, with a 4.75 forty time. He is rated the #59 defensive end on Scout and the #89 player in the state of Texas by Rivals. Other pertinent info? Bench max of 360 pounds and a shuttle time of 4.56, as well as a 3.3 GPA. Commits to ISU over Baylor, Kansas and Minnesota.
It sure seems like he's a bit of a disruptor in the backfield. As a junior, 70 tackles, including a whopping 52 for a loss. Feel free to thow seven sacks in there as well.
Best of all? He was one of Mesquite High School's students of the month. Take that, everyone else.
In all seriousness, Marshall is already one of the best commitments for the 2008 class. He's a proven stud in the state of Texas, an area that Chizik pledged to hit hard. He should go a long way towards offsetting the loss of Kurtis Taylor when he graduates, and he could make an impact, along with Jake McDonough and Tracy Robertson, as far as guys that we are bringing in at defensive end. Whether any of these guys stay at end is anyone's guess, but it's nice to know that we are bringing in quality recruits, if even just at one position.
