Iowa State bounced back nicely from dropping their last meet to the Iowa Hawkeyes, traveling to Cedar Falls and coming away with a nice win, including some bounceback victories. Nick Gallick's upset of CJ Ettleson was the big surprise of the day, and ISU used some guys that they haven't for a while.

Cyler gets the fall that he should have gotten during the Iowa meet, but it's nice to see him continue his hot wrestling. Reader loses for the first time as a freshman, but it was a close match, and we can just hope that he learned from this match. Not a bad loss. It seems like we're gonna lose at 174 against anyone, so chalk that up as at least 3 points, especially against a ranked foe. Varner wins, nothing new. Bertolino is on fire, and he should be rocketing up the rankings. As a senior, he's finally coming around. Big Z bounces back from the tough loss against Iowa. Fanthorpe seems to be falling back to Earth from a great freshman performance, but at the very least, he's still a top 10 wrestler. Nick Gallick picked up a huge win, if not for the team, then for himself, against Ettleson. Ettelson defeated Mitch Mueller last year, and Gallick was able to get up early and make the lead stick. As far as 149, I haven't heard what happened to Mueller. Ketcher was wrestling his first ever match as a senior, and didn't fare too badly, but couldn't hang on.
The grapplers get most of the rest of the month off before heading to the Midlands - which the Cyclones won last year. Sure, this meet wasn't as sexy as Iowa's win over the Panthers, but the three weights we lost....we were definite dogs. I'd have to imagine a healthy Mueller wins at 149, and I have no problem with Reader dropping that match....against a top 5 wrestler. Now, if we can find a 74 pounder....
