Trent Paulson and Lyndsey Medders have been named Iowa State's male and female athletes of the year, the university announced today.
Paulson, a senior wrestler from Council Bluffs, won the national title at 157 pounds and helped the Cyclones place second in team scoring. He finished the season with a 29-4 record and his career with a 115-20 mark.
Medders led the basketball team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She was named first-team all-Big 12 Conference and was honorable mention all-America.
The senior from Los Angeles, Calif., ranked sixth in the nation in assists with an average of 6.5 per game.
Great picks. Both are tremendous representatives for Iowa State, and both have great days ahead of them. Paulson will be a coach sooner rather than later, and I happen to believe that Medders hasn't been in her last WNBA camp.

On a side note, this week's storms have taken a toll, and I'm spending most of my days cleaning up trees, so, needless to say, I've been whooped lately, so please don't be surprised if I miss a day here and there.
