2008-2009 Wrestling Season: Why you should Go

New, 2 comments

I love college wrestling!

Being an ISU fan, we're lucky to watch one of the best teams in the nation.

Something that I don't think the casual fan realizes is how great Wrestling is in the state of Iowa. Iowa, ISU, and UNI are all solid programs.

This is a great season to get into wrestling if you've been thinking about going and sitting on the sidelines.

Here are some reasons why you should come out and support the Cyclones Grapplers!

  • Nationally Ranked Team: We are currently ranked #2 in the Nation behind Iowa. This is the most talented talent we've had in a while. 6 of our returning starters were All-Americans last year.
  • Program Continues to Rise: Two years ago ISU won it's first Big 12 Championship. Last year after returning just 1 All-American (Jake Varner), ISU won it's 2nd consecutive Big 12 Championship.
  • National Championship is a Legitimate Goal: We've got the talent. We also have no Seniors. Our talent is mainley Sophomores and Juniors. These next 2 years are going to be big opportunities.
  • We don't lose often:  In Cael Sanderson's 2 years of coaching at ISU, our team record is 29-7.
  • Good atmosphere: We average about 3300 fans per meet, which was 3rd in the nation last year.
  • Fun to watch some success: With Football and Basketball not exactly going the way most fans would like it do, watching a talented ISU team being amongst the best in the Nation is just fun.

The next home meet is Sunday, November 23rd against Arizona State.

With that said, I hope to see many of you at the meets as we cheer on the Cyclones on their quest for a National Championship!
