Clone Chronicles' Week 2 Bowl Picks

New, 1 comment

In the opening weekend of action, I went 2-1 both overall and ATS in my bowl predictions. I was dead wrong about Wyoming. When I saw Wyoming come out during the pregame warmups and starting a little bit of a scuffle with Fresno St prior to the game, I thought that they came to play, and that it would be a closer game than most thought, but that was after I made my picks..

Below are my picks for this week, starting with tonight's Las Vegas Bowl. I also have included my bowl rankings from my 3 part Bowl Preview Series.

Las Vegas Bowl, 7pm CST Tonight, ESPN (my #8th rated bowl): Oregon State 35, BYU 31. I think this game is going to be a shootout with the last team to get the ball winning the game. Vegas has BYU - 3, but I'm going with a gut feel that Oregon State will win this one.

Poinsettia Bowl, 7pm CST Tomorrow, ESPN (my #10 rated bowl): Utah 31, Cal 27. Vegas has Cal at -3, but I'm picking Utah. This year was such a disappointment for Cal, and I think it continues. Best is not playing, which obviously helps Utah.

Hawaii Bowl, 7pm CST, Thursday, ESPN (my #31 rated bowl): Nevada 42, SMU 17. Vegas has Nevada  -15, I've got them covering that and then some. #2 offense, #1 rushing offense, against a medicore defense that allows 29 points per game. I think Nevada runs all over SMU and blows them out.

Little Caesars Bowl, Noon CST, Saturday, ESPN (my #32 rated bowl): Ohio 28, Marshall 17. Marshall is a bit of a mess with the coaching situation. I think they are the better team on paper, but I think Ohio will have it more together. Vegas has Ohio -3.

Meineke Car Care Bowl, 3:30pm CST, Saturday, ESPN (my #24 rated bowl): UNC 24, Pitt 21. Teams that just missed the BCS do not fare well in bowl games, especially when they dropped to a game this low. Part of it was due to giving Bowden the Gator bowl matchup he wanted. I would expect Pitt to come out unmotivated, while UNC comes out hungry looking for a win. Vegas has Pitt -3.

Emerald Bowl, 7pm CST, Saturday, ESPN (my #18 rated bowl): USC 27, Boston College 17. USC is not as good as they have been in the past, but they are the better football team, plain and simple. Vegas has USC -9

Music City Bowl, 7:30pm CST, Sunday, ESPN (my #22 rated bowl): Clemson 35, Kentucky 21. Spiller is going to run all over Kentucky. Clemson just missed the BCS, but they really aren't all the way there. I think Spiller will want to put on a heck of a show in his last college game and to improve his draft stock. Vegas has Clemson -8, but I think it be higher when you factor how bad Kentucky's run defense is.

At the end of the day, this is just for fun/discussion. If you're throwing down some money, don't use this as a guide, as there is no science to my picks.
