Clone Chronicles' Week 3 Bowl Picks: Mid-Week Edition

New, 2 comments

I got creamed on my picks from early this week. I thought Georgia would win, but it would be closer. UCLA and Wisconsin winning their games just threw me off completley. That's what happens with these bowl games though. Teams get extra time to get healthy, and to prepare for the opponent, that you never know what will happen.

Here's a look at my picks thus far:

Straight Up: 6-7

ATS: 5-7-1

Below are my picks for today's and tomorrow's action, minus the Insight Bowl, which I will go into detail in on a later post.

Humanitarian Bowl, 3:30pm CST, Today, ESPN (my #23 rated bowl): If you like watching stud, WRs, watch this one. Bowling Green WR, Freddie Barnes is almost sure fire to tear it up, and has a good chance in setting the NCAA record for receptions. Both teams can score, and neither plays that good of defense. Vegas is giving Bowling Green 1 point, but I'm thinking Bowling Green gets the win here, 35-28.

Holiday Bowl, 7pm CST, Tonight, ESPN (my #11 rated bowl): An interesting matchup, and should be a close game. I think it's clear that Suh along with the Huskers D will dominate. The question is how well will that offense play? I am thinking the Huskers win, something like 16-14. With Vegas giving Arizona 3, I'd pick them against the spread, but this is too hard of a game to predict.

Armed Forces Bowl, 11am CST, Tomorrow, ESPN (my #26 rated bowl): The #1 pass offense in Houston vs. the #1 pass defense in Air Force. Last year this game was 34-28 Houston, but I'm thinking Air Force pulls off the win. Houston is very beatable, and I hadn't been impressed with them at all this year. Vegas is giving Air Force 5, and I'm thinking this game ends up being 31-28 Air Force.

Sun Bowl, 1pm CST, Tomorrow, CBS (my #7 rated bowl): On paper, Oklahoma is the better team, despite all the injuries, turmoil, etc. At the same time, they seem to come up short in big games, especially bowl games recently. Stanford is going to be jacked up, with the opportunity to knock off a big name. I think Oklahoma is better than many make them out to be, but there's no way I agree with the 10 points that Vegas is giving Stanford. I am thinking something like 34-31 in this one.

Texas Bowl, 2:30pm CST, Tomorrow, ESPN (my #19 rated bowl): Good news for Missouri fans. Tomorrow is supposed to be 67 and sunny in Houston, meaning you should have no problem airing it out to Danario Alexander. Vegas is giving Navy 7 points, but I think it's going to be a Missouri blowout. I've got Missouri 38, Navy 21.

Chick-Fil-A-Bowl, 6:30pm CST, Tomorrow, ESPN (my #14 rated bowl): Virginia Tech reminds me a lot of Miami. Good amount of talent, but inconsistent as hell. I think VA Tech should win by a touchdown, but I think they lose by a field goal. Tennessee has a good defense, and I think Crompton ended up being better than many thought he would be. Vegas is giving the Vols 6, but I think the wrong team is favored, with Tennesee winning 24-21.

So there you have it. Hopefully I can redeem myself, and get my totals back to at least .500. Knowing myself, however, I wouldn't count on it.

I'll cover the Insight Bowl when I post my preview later tonight.
