Iowa State Avoids A Letdown, Beats Texas Southern 65-54

This was a close one most of the way. With Iowa State coming off that big W on Friday night, it was going to be tough to have a quick turnaround and face a team having their best player join them for the first time this year. The difference in this one was turnovers. Iowa State turned the ball over only 8 times, while Texas Southern did so 14 times. Iowa State got 16 points off of turnovers vs. Texas Southern's 7. Everything else was pretty even. Both teams shot about about the same (about 35-36%) and rebounded the same (40 for Texas Southern vs. 39 for ISU).

Individually, Diante Garrett bounced back from a rough night on Friday to having a solid performance: 16 points on 6 of 14 shooting, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Jamie Vanderbeken had a good night as well logging 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting, getting 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 blocks. Calvin Godfrey had a good performance as well, scoring 6 points, grabbing 5 boards, and getting 2 steals in only 16 minutes of play. And everyone's favorite Cyclone at the moment, Scott Christopherson, put in a 39 minute night, scoring 16 points on 6 of 18 shooting. My guess is having played 79 of the team's last 80 minutes, his legs had to be tired..... Just a little, ha ha!

With finals week now, the Cyclones will take the week off from games, until they face Dartmouth at home on December 19th.
