This became official earlier today. The Cyclones have received an LOI from Quinton Pompey, a 3 star DT from Bradenton, FL. According to Rivals he had received offers from Miami (FL), Penn State, Missouri, Louisville, and others, although his official visits look to have been Marshall, Georgia Southern, Eastern Kentucky, and Iowa State.
According to Scout, Pompey suffered a knee injury and has been struggling with grades as well. It sounds like a situation where some bigger teams had initial interest, but there were too many question marks and backed away.
For Iowa State, you have to jump on opportunities like this. Defensive line is probably the hardest position to recruit, and you have to be hopeful that the kid gets it together in the classroom, and recovers health-wise. If he turns out to be a player, it is a great move, and if he doesn't make it to Ames this fall, it did not cost the team anything either.
I hope he does make it, and does turn out to be good. The defensive line needs a lot of help.
