We are going to win ya'll. I'm not sure how, but it's going down. We are going to send the Longhorns on a two game losing streak, make them hardcore melt down, and that is going to result in them firing coaches and realize they bottomed out in a year the fanbase could not believe.
What was that? Football season is over? Dang. I knew this storyline was from somewhere....
At this point in the season, what do you say? Texas is a final four caliber team without a doubt. In my mind at least. They are coming off a disappointing loss already, and are going to face the Cyclones (and their 9 game losing streak) at home. I do not think there is any way they are going to overlook the Cyclones. Thanks Nebraska!
The Longhorns roll 9 guys deep, have an All-Big 12 POY candidate in Jordan Hamilton, and have the ability to make tonight feel like the longest night in quite a while. Similar to other teams, they are going to cause a matchup problem for Iowa State. Their forwards are 6-6, 6-7, and 6-8, meaning either DG, Jake, or Christopherson are going to have the task of guarding 6-6 Gary Johnson. I would think Iowa State would play a bunch of zone, because Hamilton is going to cause problems for Ejim, and Tristan Thompson is going to be a tough challenge for Godfrey.
As a team, their defense is #1 in the nation whether you look at efficiency or opponent eFG%.Texas' opponents are only shooting about 28% from 3, which is bad news for a team like Iowa State that relies on the three-ball so much. This is division one basketball and guys don't play for moral victories, but avoiding a blowout would be huge. Heck, just having it be a game going into the second half would be amazing.
My hope is that this experience is good for the freshmen (Ejim, Godfrey, and Railey), and the team comes away injury free, so they can be ready to hopefully beat the Huskers on Saturday.
The game tips off tonight at 7pm CST on Big 12 network affiliates, ESPN3.com, and ESPN FC. Texas is favored by 17 points by Vegas and 18 points by Pomeroy with a 95% win probability.
