Iowa State owns four football commitments for 2012, and in the last few days, Rivals has let us know how good they really are.......
...but seriously. All four current commits clock in at three stars on the Rivals scale, with Grant Rohach and Quan West (5.6) rating slightly ahead of Luke Knott and Barkley Hill. Rohach ranks as the 26th best pro-style quarterback, while Knott is #30 in terms of dual threat quarterbacks. West clocks in as the 82nd best WR prospect in the nation.
Rohach and Knott join an all too crowded group at quarterback. While Rohach seems to be the more sure bet to stay at QB, Knott could figure if he gets an extended crack at QB. That being said, Knott has expressed a desire to see the field quickly, and would be open to moving positions - likely on the defensive side of the ball. Rohach will likely get the luxury of a pressure-less redshirt, but he's also rapidly rising on recruiting radars of programs out west.
West may have the best chance to contribute early. A prospect with size (6-4, 208), West had programs like Texas sniffing around, and he figures to be a bit of a sleeper. He could figure to be a Marquis Hamilton type of receiver, and with the increased focus on speedsters, he could be a nice counterbalance to receivers such as Lampkin and West.
Hill will be joining a backfield with a number of flashy players and prospects, including Shontrelle Johnson, James White, Devondrick Nealy and Robert Standard. If all of these guys stick around will remain to be seen, but Hill remains one of the better prospects in the state of Iowa.
And speaking of the state of Iowa, Amara Darboh figures to be the highest on the boards of Iowa State coaches. The four star WR from Valley has offers from Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame and Wisconsin, but still has Iowa State solidly in the mix.
